Why do we experience so many problems with public construction projects?

The Niels Bohr Building

After a seven-year delay, the University of Copenhagen was able to start using the new building in August 2023. From an original budget of DKK 2 billion, the total costs eventually amounted to DKK 5 billion.

New Aalborg University Hospital
Aalborg’s future super hospital is expected to be completed in 2026, i.e. six years later than planned, and with a budget overrun of approx. DKK 1.4 billion.

The line opened in 2019 after a nine-month delay with a budget overrun of DKK 4 billion, bringing the total costs to DKK 25 billion.

DR Koncerthuset
In 2009, Koncerthuset concert hall was completed after a two-year delay. The original budget was DKK 600 million, but it ended up costing DKK 1.6 billion.
