Statement by NYU President Andrew Hamilton on The Recent Earthquake Affecting Turkey and Syria

February 11, 2023

“The devastation is staggering. The loss of life, the damage to buildings of all kinds, the desperation of those made homeless, the countless challenges confronting the rescuers, the brutal weather—the tragedy of it is so heartbreaking and the needs so immense that it borders on the overwhelming. “This is a moment when we in the NYU community should open our hearts and support those who are so courageously responding to this crisis in southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria. I encourage you to consider giving to the organizations making the heroic efforts to help the injured and displaced, protect lives, and deliver aid, or to help in whatever way you can.”—NYU President Andrew Hamilton
