Dan Banik was recently appointed Academic Director in Circle U’s Knowledge Hub on Democracy. Alongside his existing role as Professor at SUM, he will now take on this role to spearhead Circle U’s democracy initiatives.

“I am honoured to assume the role of Academic Director of the Democracy Hub within the Circle U. European University Alliance. In this role, I look forward to collaborating with passionate educators, researchers, and students to create an intellectual epicentre dedicated to the study and promotion of democratic principles. I am excited to lead this collective effort to inspire the next generation of leaders and scholars who will shape the future of our democratic societies”, says Dan Banik.

About Circle U.

UiO is one of the nine partners in the European university alliance called Circle U. The alliance has established several Knowledge Hubs, which are physical and virtual spaces for students and staff to co-create knowledge and solutions across disciplines with external stakeholders and find new ways of working together.

Circle U’s Knowledge Hub on Democracy was established in 2021 to examine the alarming trends in parts of Europe and elsewhere, where democratic values are undermined and discarded. The aim of the Hub is to develop strategies to strengthen democracy and civic engagement.

The Hubs host activities created with and for various stakeholders in order to empower them to make big societal impact. These are spaces shared across the 9 universities that take an inter- and transdisciplinary approach to their topics, going beyond what is possible within every single university. The Hubs play an essential role in developing new innovative teaching and learning methods.
