A ‘Killer’ group of Oscar noms: 10 NYU Alumni are up for 2024 Academy Awards

Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were released Jan. 23, and while many are debating the treatment of Barbie star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, here at NYU we are celebrating the 10 alumni who are in the running for a 2024 Oscar. The NYU alumni nominations represent four schools and reach across seven award categories and eight films. Scorsese was nominated for directing Killers of the Flower Moon, the historical drama starring Lily Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio that also received a Best Picture nomination. Robbie Brenner is one of the producers of Best Picture nominee Barbie, and actor Sterling K. Brown received a nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role for American Fiction, another Best Picture nominee. Congratulations also go to NYU Honorary Degree recipients Robert DeNiro (nominated for Actor in a Supporting Role for Killers of the Flower Moon) and Steven Spielberg (one of the producers of Best Picture nominee Maestro).

Leading the list is the legendary director (and TikTok star) Martin Scorsese, who holds three NYU degrees and is a member of the Tisch School of the Arts Dean's Council. Scorsese was nominated for directing Killers of the Flower Moon, the historical drama starring Lily Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio that also received a Best Picture nomination.
