This project takes advantage of the weight savings and reusability of high
temperature ceramic composites as aeroshell (heat shield and fuselage) for
satellite launch vehicles. The two PhD programs will focus on both the
manufacturability of ceramic matrix composite materials and the design and
analysis of the composite components for the reusable satellite launch
platform.
Value
Stipend of AUD $33,000.00
Maximum period of tenure of an award is 3 years. Periods of study already
undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the period of tenure.
Eligibility
To be eligible applicants must have;
completed a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or Second Class
Honours (Division A) at an Australian University or equivalent in
aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronic engineering,
materials science or materials engineering; or
completed a Master’s degree at an Australian University or equivalent
(containing a significant research component) with a GPA of at least 5.5
on a 7-point scale.
Additionally, applicants must:
have applied to, or be currently enrolled in the PhD program at UniSQ;
not be receiving equivalent support providing a benefit greater than 75%
of the student’s stipend rate;
be prepared to commence their studies prior to or no later than the end of
June 2023.
Selection criteria
Applicants will be assessed on:
alignment with the research topic area – Space/Aerospace Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering and Material Engineering/Science;
academic merit, previous research outputs and research experience of the
applicant;
research track record of the proposed supervisory team;
quality of the research proposal.
