The Prize was established in 1995 by Dr Robert Hawkins, in memory of his father Raymond Harry Hawkins, who practised optometry in Auckland for many years. Raymond Harry Hawkins was a British-trained optometrist who was also a qualified pharmacist, and had a keen interest in ocular pharmacology.
The main purpose of the Prize is to encourage excellence in undergraduate optometry research.
