The Prize was established in 2006 and is financed from funds donated for the purpose, held in trust by the Middlemore Foundation, previously known as the South Auckland Health Foundation (a registered charity).
The main purpose of the Prize is to stimulate interest amongst medical students in evidence-based clinical care of patients with diabetes and metabolic disease.
