The Award was established in 2014 (formerly known as the Academic Career Exploration Award) and is funded by the School of Graduate Studies.

The main purpose of the Award is to enable doctoral students with strong academic leadership potential to enrol in the Academic Career Advancement Programme.

Outcomes are determined by a selection committee and are usually notified around eight weeks after the closing date.
