About University of Abertay Dundee

Abertay University was established as the Dundee Technical Institute in 1888 in Dundee. On August 17th, 1994, it officially became the University of Abertay Dundee. Notably, the university has been promoting itself by its current name since 2014.

Situated in the Dundee city center, the Abertay University campus features excellent infrastructure and offers several modern amenities. It is conveniently located near the city's main bus and train stations. The campus consists of several academic, recreational, and administrative buildings including Kydd Building, Old College, Hannah Maclure Centre, and Students Centre. All these buildings are grouped around the Bernard King Library in the Bell Street Complex. The four major academic buildings, namely Kydd building, Graham Building, Baxter Building, and Old College building feature spacious classrooms, laboratories, and study areas. The campus offers excellent residential and dining facilities too. Also, it is home to 13 sports clubs supporting more than 23 social and competitive teams.

Abertay University offers numerous postgraduate, undergraduate and research programs in various fields such as business, engineering, computer science, computer games, law, nursing, pharmacy, sports, economics, finance, and behavioral sciences. It also offers a number of preparation and English language courses. The university houses over 4,000 students including lots of foreign students and a team of distinguished and qualified faculty members. It also offers many career services to students. Around 95% of the university's graduates find employment or enroll in further studies within six months of finishing graduation.

Abertay University has over 25,000 alumni including numerous notable and successful names. Shehzad Afzal is a writer, producer, director and game designer known for directing and producing Bo Kata, a famous documentary film. Vikki Bunce is a professional field hockey player who plays for Scotland at the national level. Joe FitzPatrick is Scotland's Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing. Stewart Hosie is the former deputy leader of the Scottish National Party. David Jones is an accomplished video game developer who created Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings. Iain McNicol was the GMB Union's National Political Officer and the general secretary of the British Labour Party. Andy Nicol is a popular rugby player. Brian Souter is a successful businessman and the founder of the Stagecoach Group. The university has produced many other distinguished graduates.
